ERP
Enterprise resource planning software: the system that records a company's invoices, stock, purchases, accounts and other core operations.
What it does
The ERP is where the business's transactions live: customer and supplier records, sales documents and invoices, stock movements, purchases, receivables and the accounts. In Portugal and Spain, common examples include Cegid PHC and Ahora ERP, alongside international systems like SAP and Microsoft Dynamics 365.
ERP vs CRM
The ERP records what happened — invoiced, paid, shipped. The CRM records the relationship and what might happen — contacts, visits, opportunities. Sales teams need both, and usually get neither on the road.
Why sales teams struggle with it
ERPs are built for the back office: precise, powerful and screen-heavy. For a rep between visits, finding a client's balance or last order means calling the office — so the richest data in the company goes mostly unused in the field.
